Property Tax Appeal Seminar Tuesday In DP

State Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-33d) of Park Ridge is hosting an informational property tax relief seminar for local residents with Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael Cabonargi on Tuesday morning, Nov. 8 at the Des Plaines Public Library.

The seminar will show taxpayers how to file a property tax appeal and avoid overpayment.

Filing an appeal is free. Residents should bring their property tax bills to expedite the process. Those that cannot attend the seminar, but are still interested in filing an appeal or getting more information should visit www.cookcountyboardofreview.com. Appeals must be filed by Nov. 16.

"People in our community need property tax relief," Kotowski said. "This is an opportunity to learn more about the property tax appeal process, to file an appeal and get additional questions answered."

Kotowski's district serves portions of the Journal-area from Elk Grove Village and Rolling Meadows east to Park Ridge.

"We want to simplify the process, making the Board of Review and the appeal process more accessible to the many communities of Cook County," Cabonargi said. "These workshops are great opportunities for taxpayers to take advantage of the services offered by the Board of Review and to make sure they are not over paying in property taxes."

The seminar is scheduled to take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. It will be held in Conference Room A of the downtown library located at 1501 Ellinwood St.
