Senator Wilhelmi Hosts Safety Day in Elwood

ELWOOD - Jackson Township-area residents are invited to take part in Safety Day Tuesday at Elwood Village Hall, 401 E. Mississippi Ave.

The event, hosted by state Sen. A.J. Wilhelmi, state Rep. Jack McGuire, Will County Executive Larry Walsh and Elwood Mayor Bill Offerman, offers local security resources and services.

11 a.m. to noon: "Protecting Yourself from Scams," a presentation by Pam Moore from Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office.

Noon-1 p.m.: Chat and share refreshments with state Sen. A.J. Wilhelmi, state Rep. Jack McGuire, Will County Executive Larry Walsh and Elwood Mayor William Offerman.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Safely dispose of electronics and medication, hosted by Will County Department of Land Use. Visit villageofelwood.com for a complete list of accepted electronics and medication.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Protect yourself from identity theft and fire hazards by bringing a box of old documents to be placed in locked bins and shredded, courtesy of Elwood Fire Protection District

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Find out if the state is holding assests for your family at Cash Dash, hosted by state Treasurer Dan Rutherford.

Family Reading Night set

CHANNAHON - Three Rivers Library will host a Family Reading Night Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at t25207 W. Channon Drive in Channahon.

Sponsored by Secretary of State Jesse White and the Illinois Center for the Book, the statewide event encourages families to spend quality time reading together.

There will be 'celebrity guests' reading stories, a bookwalk with prizes for all ages, light refreshments and entertainment, provided by local school choirs.

Raffle prizes include ALA Celebrity READ Posters and DVD/Blu-Ray combos of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" and "Cars 2."

Hospital Foundation honors 8

MORRIS - Eight new members were inducted into the Morris Hospital Foundation Legacy Society when the group gathered for its annual reception in October.

The Legacy Society was established in 2005 to recognize those who have expressed their desire to provide a bequest or other testamentary contribution to the Morris Hospital Foundation through a will, trust, or other estate planning vehicle.

The new inductees bring the total membership to 68.

New members include Mark Finn and Rebecca Talty Finn; Jim Hedenschoug; Dennis and Joye Mahoney; Tom and Blanca Meyer; Kevin and Mary Olson; Domingo and Dr. Beatriz Setrini; and two anonymous members.

The Morris Hospital Foundation, which is governed by a 18-member, volunteer board of directors, was established in 1994 to enhance the work of Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers.

Nonprofit thrift shop closed Thursday

CHANNAHON - The Thrift Shop at Channahon United Methodist Church at 24751 W. Eames (Route 6) in Channahon will be closed Thursday.

It will reopen from 6-8 p.m. Mondays, Nov. 21, Dec. 5 and 19; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays, Dec. 1 and 15.
