Michael Frerichs (Gifford)

Mike Frerichs has represented the 52nd District since 2007. During his time in the legislature he has focused on health care issues as well as improving the transparency of the appropriations process. He spearheaded the effort to prevent changes to the State's group health insurance contracts. This included fighting against the decision to drop Health Alliance and Humana, companies which provide health care to tens of thousands of downstate employees, as HMO providers. The Senator has worked for the passage of Senate Bill 178 in order to block the implementation of the proposed change to group health insurance contracts.

Senator Frerichs graduated with his undergraduate degree from Yale University. He lives with his wife and daughter live in Champaign, Illinois.
