William Delgado (Chicago)

William Delgado has represented the 2nd District since 2006, prior to which he served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2006. Senator Delgado has focused on women's health issues and education during his time in the General Assembly. He has introduced legislation aimed at protecting patients' rights, including the "Patients' Right to Know Act." The act requires the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to make available the profiles of all licensed physicians, allowing patients to make a more informed decision when choosing a health care provider. In addition to his efforts on health care, he has worked to increase the number of teachers in difficult to staff schools.

Senator Delgado was born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Chicago. He earned his undergraduate degree from Northeastern Illinois University in criminal justice. After graduating he married his high school sweetheart Iris, with whom he has two children.
